NeWest Press

NeWest Press has been one of Canada's leading independent book publishers since it was established in 1977 with a mandate to publish and promote literature by and about Western Canadians. Located in Edmonton, the Press has published over 270 works of literary fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and drama. NeWest Press is known for its high editorial and production values, and its books have won may provincial, national, and international awards.

A non-profit corporation, NeWest Press is run by a volunteer board of directors composed of prominent writers, editors, and academics from the western provinces. signature series such as the Nunatak New Fiction Series, the Prairie Play Series, the Writer as Critic Series, and the NeWest Poetry, have contributed to NeWest's strong reputation in Canada and abroad.

While still a western press in focus, in recent years NeWest Press has expanded its mandate to publish work from across Canada. The editorial board continues its commitment to develop and publish first-time writers, as well as ensure the availability of Canadian classics, publishing ten to thirteen books annually. The Press is constantly exploring and implementing publishing practices that are environmentally friendly, with all of its books printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. At thirty years and counting, NeWest Press has established itself as one of the country's most enduring and respected literary presses, a reflection of the many years of dedication, passion, and perseverance that have kept its original publishing vision alive.
